Travels With Annie California
Short Readings With Guitar (and Cookies)
Also…a Book Signing
Local author Margaret Kellermann picks out the most entertaining excerpts from her 2021 novel Annie California Book One. Local guitarist friends help fill the spaces between. After the reading: fresh-baked cookies and a book signing.
About Annie
Annie always tells the truth. This gets her in trouble. A fictional 10-year-old from Eureka, Annie is smart, funny, and for some reason suddenly homeless. Her parents aren't answering her questions. Now she's journaling about it on a dysfunctional family road trip across the country. Five-star Amazon reviews of the book call Annie "brave," resilient" and "lovable."
Age-appropriate
Even though kids 8 and up relate to the story, adults prove to be the most avid readers so far. Imagine "To Kill a Mockingbird" meeting "Little Miss Sunshine."
About Margaret and the book
Author, musician, artist — and art workshop leader at Ferndale Music Company — Margaret walks the coast with her black lab, Luke, who is featured in the book. Margaret won a Ruth Marcus Memorial Writing Scholarship from the Humboldt Area Foundation to complete the book (in paperback and on Kindle). Later, she won a Funds for Artists' Resilience (FAR) Grant to create, with engineer North Coast Music, an audiobook of the novel (on Audible). This live event at The Old Steeple was funded by the FAR Grant, thanks to Ink People for the Arts and the Humboldt Area Foundation.
